Certification and Competencies

ACMCS is committed to helping our members achieve their highest level of competence as professional coders. To fulfill that commitment, the ACMCS has adopted Professional Competencies to be mastered by members. They range from coding and regulatory expertise to a holistic approach for our profession by expanding the educational opportunities for professional growth in many areas of business.

The Physician Coding Specialist (PCS) and Facility Coding Specialist (FCS) designations are the credentials to be earned through ACMCS. These designations recognize a commitment to ongoing education, proven coding experience, and ethical behavior. We are currently seeking to obtain approval for our Physician Coding Specialist (PCS) certification exam through the national accreditation agency for exam certification. The ACMCS Physician Coding Specialist (PCS) certification examination is currently being beta tested across the country and should be ready for release in early 2009.
